Farm Kids Mini Farmers – Regenerative Agriculture Workshop
@ The Farm Byron Bay

We discuss what bush regeneration in agriculture is and cover local history of the big scrub rainforest, how it was cleared for logging and that only 1% remains. Explain that local land continues to be cleared for housing and farming development. Why is cleared land, and overused land harmful to our environment? We will discuss native flora and fauna, top soil, chemicals and waterways. We will look at how many great things are happening in our local area to tackle this issue. We will touch on local bush tucker and ways indigenous peoples gathered and prepared such foods.

Taste Lillypillys or Davidson plums (season/availability pending)  and make a native jam. Decorating a pot to take home with a native tree planted within. Nature weaving with yarn & sticks. Plant some trees. Conduct a science experiment.

The kids become mini farmers and after a detailed tour get set to work doing farm chores. We collect eggs, restock our pet chickens bedding, ensure they have fresh water and clean out the coup. We work on our dedicated Farm Kids garden plot and tend to our onsite worm Subpod. If the opportunity arises, we assist the farmers with their chores. They forage, cook, make natural products, create and see where their food comes from as well as experience countless opportunities to learn about teamwork, community, and ethical farming practices.

What to Bring

• Children must wear covered shoes, sleeves and a hat at all times.
• Please pack a healthy lunchbox for your child daily.
• Please ensure you also bring a water bottle and a raincoat.
• All items need to be labelled.

Where to Meet

We will meet at the Farm House opposite the restaurant. Please look out for the signs to guide you.
(If coming from QLD, please be aware of time difference during day light savings!)

Extra Service

If you are a working parent please discuss with the Farm Kids Manager if you need your child to start early or finish later than the designated program time so as to get to and from work. For an extra fee this can be arranged.
