Farm Kids @ The Farm Byron Bay

Our Farm Kids program is one of Kidzklub Australia’s brightest stars, and it’s designed to inspire and educate children in a way that’s both fun and enriching. Developed by the team at Kidzklub at the request of The Farm Byron Bay, this program offers a hands-on, immersive experience that connects kids with the land, the animals, and the food they eat.

Located at The Farm Byron Bay, Australia – 11 Ewingsdale Rd, Ewingsdale NSW 2481, our programs are designed to engage children in real-world experiences which over time have expanded to become a way of life for the children involved.

What Farm Kids is All About

Farm Kids is more than just a series of workshops; it’s a way for children to understand where their food comes from and how they can contribute to a sustainable, ethical world. We dive into the important aspects of farming, focusing on concepts such as:

  • Paddock rotation for animals
  • The importance of pollination
  • Organic farming practices
  • Growing healthy crops and maintaining healthy soil
  • Composting and other eco-friendly farming methods

Children can interact up close with our heritage black pigs, wander through our chicken coops, and immerse themselves in nature while learning about the intricate balance of the ecosystem. Whether it’s in the orchard or the veggie garden, kids will discover the joy of sunshine, fresh air, and the satisfaction of working the land.

Mini Farmers Program: A Full Day of Farm Fun

Our Mini Farmers Program is available both during the school holidays and throughout the school term. It’s perfect for full days of adventure from 9 am to 3 pm. Kids get to become mini farmers for the day, taking on various farm chores and working alongside our farm animals. They collect eggs, feed animals, check fences, and so much more.

In addition to animal care, they help in the Farm Kids garden, where they plant, weed, and harvest. They also participate in cooking, crafting, and learning about the food they grow. Throughout the day, they experience:

  • Teamwork and community skills
  • Natural remedies and sustainable living practices
  • Ethical farming methods that are both sustainable and practical

During the school term, the program aligns with the curriculum for homeschooled children, offering learning experiences that touch on a variety of subjects such as science, sustainability, and environmental responsibility. It’s an enriching program that we could even write an entire blog about!

School Holiday Activities

Every school holiday, Farm Kids offers exciting workshops and tours that kids love! These fun and educational experiences bring children into close contact with the farm, allowing them to get up close to our animals and learn about where their food comes from.

Farm Tours & Workshops

At the beginning of each workshop, we take the children on a Farm Tour, exploring acres of beauty. Along the way, they’ll learn about:

  • Our heritage pigs and chickens
  • The importance of pollination and organic farming
  • Healthy soil, composting, and sustainable farming practices

The children will also have the chance to pick and taste fresh vegetables, explore the herb garden, and meet our pet chickens. After the tour, we head back to the barn where we focus on a different theme each day, ranging from cooking and gardening to craft activities.
