Since its inception, Kidzklub Australia transformed a dedicated area within Splendour in the Grass into a magical children’s space called Little Splendour, allowing the youngest festival-goers to immerse themselves in creativity, play, and endless fun. Designed for children from newborns to tweens, this kid-friendly haven operated throughout the entire three-day festival, providing a space for families to fully enjoy the festival together.
Kidzklub’s role in Little Splendour went beyond keeping the kids entertained—it enhanced the family-friendly nature of Splendour in the Grass by offering a safe, engaging environment where children could explore and express themselves. Families were invited to take part in the creative atmosphere, knowing their children were in good hands.
Key Features of Little Splendour:
- Arts & Craft Workshops: The Artie Fartie Partie was every child’s creative dream come true! Kids could experiment with painting, collage, drawing, stencilling, mask-making, beading, eco-glitter, and more. With a focus on using recycled materials, children were encouraged to up-cycle and create unique masterpieces.
- Graffiti Wall: Kids unleashed their inner Banksy by painting the fence that bordered the magical Little Splendour space. Brushes, rollers, and rainbow colors were all on hand to transform the fence into a vibrant work of art.
- Programmed Workshops: Six workshops were held each day, including:
- Clay Sculpting Workshop: Children got hands-on with clay to create their own sculptures.
- Hula Hoop Making: Kids crafted colourful hula hoops and learned fun tricks.
- Juggling Ball Making: Crafting their own juggling balls, kids were introduced to the art of juggling.
- Kooky Pet Rocks: A favorite for many, kids designed their own pet rocks with paint and googly eyes.
- Key Rings/Bag Tags: Children could personalize key rings and bag tags to take home as souvenirs.
- Flower Collage on Canvas: Using flowers and items from nature, kids created floral masterpieces on canvas.
- Giant Games & Music Wall: Outdoor fun was endless with Giant Games like life-size versions of Connect Four. The Music Wall was a hit, where young festival-goers could create their own music using an array of hanging instruments.
- Playground & Storytelling Tipi: Little Splendour featured a playground with a sandpit, stepping stones, and sports equipment for active play. Inside the Storytelling Tipi, kids enjoyed dress-up, face painting, and stories told by festival performers.
- Live Performances: Adding to the magic, roving stilt walkers, jugglers, and aerial performers lit up the festival grounds. Festival-goers were even greeted by characters like mermaids, pirates, fairies, and King Neptune himself.
- Face Painting & Big Bubbles: Kids loved getting their faces painted, and the eco-glitter station added sparkle to their festival look. Big bubbles and balloons provided extra fun for everyone.
Safety & Babysitting Services
Parents could also take advantage of the Little Splendour Babysitting Club, a fully secured area that operated from 12 PM to 12 AM on festival days. Staffed by trained teachers and childcare professionals, this service offered children a safe place to enjoy art, games, movies, and books, while parents enjoyed the festival.
For children under 5, bookings were required in advance to ensure individual staff attention. Families were encouraged to book by July 1st to guarantee a spot.
Outcomes for Children
- Creative Development: Through hands-on activities, children enhanced their fine motor skills, expressed their creativity, and explored new artistic techniques.
- Social Skills: Group workshops and games fostered teamwork, communication, and interaction with peers.
- Lasting Memories: Kids took home their creations, which served as tangible reminders of their festival experience and their creative accomplishments.
